President initiates awareness
MUMENG local level government president in Bulolo, Morobe, has taken the initiative to engage Lae-based Panamex Pacific (PNG) Ltd to conduct awareness on the Covid-19 in the LLG. Panamex conducted awareness at Gurako, Timini, Warabung, Zenag and Mumeng Station. LLG president and provincial minister for mines and petroleum, Amos Kiking, said partnering a stakeholder in the awareness would help support health workers, the Government, other stakeholders, the disciplined forces and the Covid-19 emergency response committee to fight against the spread of the virus.

MP supports swine fever fight
KANDEP MP Alfred Manase has made funds available for African swine fever control after more than 100 pigs were reported dead in the district and also for the Covid-19 awareness activities. Manase said according to reports from the National Agriculture Quarantine and Inspection Authority (Naqia), it revealed that the deaths of the pigs occurred in Nipa, Mendi-Munihu and Central Mendi in Southern Highlands over four months.

Division conducts inspection
THE Hela education division is in its third week of carrying out inspections at every educational institution to ensure schools are practising the Covid-19 preventive measures, according to the education framework launched two weeks ago. Adviser Ronnie Angu said the strategy and preventive booklet that contained key messages and actions for Covid 19 was launched at Tari Secondary titled “Prevention and controls in school”.

Call to resume flights
POMIO MP Elias Kapavore has called on the Government to allow domestic airlines and third level operators to recommence flights within the country. Kapavore made the call following the impact of travel restrictions by the state of emergency to prevent the spread of the coronavirus in East New Britain that had affected his people.

Firm backs Covid-19 fight
KUMUL Petroleum Holdings Ltd has presented medical supplies, including personal protective equipment, worth more than K500,000 to the Port Moresby General Hospital to further support the country’s efforts to prevent the coronavirus. Managing director Wapu Sonk said the firm assisted the Government with a K5 million support.

MP supports uni students
CHUAVE MP Wera Mori has committed K20,000 to support students from his electorate attending the University of Goroka. He said: “The K20,000 is to assist students as part of new normal strategy to help them achieve the best possible outcome from their studies and research in various fields.”

Health workers sent to border
TEN health workers have been deployed to four ports of entry along Vanimo Green, West Sepik and the Indonesian border recently. The office of the provincial health authority said two health officers were deployed to Nyaukono, two to Schotchio, four at Kwek and two to Kembratoro.

K8.05mil for Covid-19 fight
THE Enga government has allocated K8.05 million on strategic programmes to prevent the Covid-19 from entering the province. This was announced by Governor Sir Peter Ipatas.
