Gamato returns to court
THE court case of Electoral Commissioner Patilias Gamato returns to the Waigani Committal Court today for oral submissions before a ruling is made on the matter. Magistrate Ernest Wilmot on Friday refused Police prosecutor Karai Naime’s request for a one-month adjournment and adjourned the matter to this afternoon for submissions on evidence.

Rape case adjourned to Sept
A CASE involving four suspects who allegedly raped a woman who walked out of her home after an argument with her husband was adjourned to Sept 10. Magistrate Dessie Kaputin Magaru at the Waigani Committal Court set the date after police prosecutor Snr Constable Peter Samghy objected to an application by the defence lawyer to have the matter struck out.

Murder case adjourned to Nov
THE Lae Committal Court has adjourned a case involving four men accused of killing another man who they claim stole a mobile phone to Nov 30. The four appeared before Magistrate Josephine Nidue charged with the murder of Jofin Micheal on Aug 10, 2020.

Professionals discuss GBV
THE Young Professionals Network of Papua New Guinea recently held discussion on suffering caused by gender-based violence in the country. PNG Tribal Foundation operations director Ruth Kissam said: “You cannot say it’s not your business, when you see something is wrong, you need to do something.”

Awareness on violence
A TWO-DAY awareness campaign on gender-based violence in Kokopo, East New Britain, ended on a high note on Saturday night. The event was organised and coordinated by the PacifiKanaKa Music and Events Ltd and was held at the Ralum show ground.

Province addressing Covid-19
WEST Sepik has no persons of interest after a secondary school teacher suspected of being Covid-19 positive was discharged in Vanimo, provincial administrator Conrad Tilau says. “The Vanimo Secondary School teacher has been cleared from the quarantine centre after 14 days. But we are still conducting awareness to further prevent transmissions in the province.”

Samples sent for testing
THE West Sepik health team has done contact tracing for all 87 contacts of the first case in the province, with samples collected and sent for testing, Governor Tony Wouwou says. He said: “Our health team was able to trace all 87 contacts of the first case both in Vanimo and Aitape, and samples have been collected and sent for testing.”

Authority receives donation
A FIRM in Mt Hagen has donated wheelchairs, crutches and bales of pyjamas to the Western Highlands Provincial Health Authority for patients. Owner of Payless Clothing, Miriam Raim, delivered the items earlier this month.

No to deep sea tailings
A CAMPAIGN to stop any progress on the proposed deep sea tailings placement in Morobe has reached the district of Nawaeb. The issue was discussed during the recent Youth Geamsao Sunday School conference in Bambok village.
