Classrooms nearly complete
THE construction of double classrooms for Huonville Primary School is into its final stage with installation of wall claddings, floor tiles, electrical fittings and window louvres including other finishing touches, Lae MP John Rosso says. Rosso, in a statement on his Facebook Page, said: “The K1.2 million project funded by taxpayers through the district services improvement programme and managed by Lae city Authority includes two offices, eight state of the art classrooms and fully furnished with desks and chairs”.

Health sector struggling: Official
PAPUA New Guinea’s health system has been struggling for a very long time due to different factors with the latest being the threat of the coronavirus (Covid-19) pandemic which has exposed the country’s fragile health sector. East New Britain health authority chief executive officer Dr Ako Yap made the remarks when receiving a donation of medical equipment for Nonga Hospital’s emergency department from Kumul Petroleum Foundation (KMF), a subsidiary of the Kumul Holding (KPH) Ltd in Rabaul last Tuesday.

Rice cooker, jug for officers
THE East New Britain market authority presented a rice cooker and a hot water jug to support the work of the policemen at the new police post that was officially opened on Thursday at the Rabaul Page Park Market. Acting ENB market authority manager and Kokopo city manager Freddy Lemeki said police personnel who will be manning the market needed cooking utensils to be able to carry out their work diligently.

Envoy presents masters degree
FRENCH Ambassador Guillaume Lemoine, last month, handed over to Papua New Guinea student Eric Kipongi his master’s degree diploma in IT strategic management, from the University of Aix-Marseille (South of France). Lemoine and Kiponge also discussed the future of the alumnus.

Speedy recovery
A MAROON Honda sedan vehicle stolen on Thursday from a woman in Koki in Port Moresby was recovered within minutes the same day after the engine stalled at the Talai-Gorobe settlement junction. Police NCD/Central Divisional Command, on its Facebook page, said its members of Fox unit 102, who recovered the car, reported that the thugs failed to find and disengage the security system causing the engine to stall and shut down. The policemen later returned the car to its owner.

Police uproot marijuana plants
POLICE say that a stack of marijuana plants were uprooted by police in Central along the Hiritano Highway last Wednesday. Police, in a statement, said the suspects cultivating the illegal plant went into hiding but their identities were known.

Man held for attempted murder
POLICE in Central last week arrested a man for attempted murder. Police in a statement on its NCD/Central Divisional Command Facebook page said six suspects were also arrested for mounting illegal roadblocks along the Hiritano Highway. Police said the suspects were detained at the 15-Mile Police Station.
