Marketing rule set
THERE will be no street markets and no marketing of clothes and others at the famous animal market, says Western Highlands police commander Chief Superintendent Joe Puri. Puri said most children had grown up in Western Highlands and as police officers and parents, it was their responsibility to make sure they were safe in their home town during the election period.

Police warn candidates
POLICE in East New Britain have warned candidates not to conduct early campaigning before the issue of writs. Police commander Chief Inspector Joseph Tabali said police would not hesitate to arrest and charge any candidates and their supporters conducting early campaigns like gatherings before the issue of writs.

Party backs ward authorities
PEOPLE’S Transformation Party (PTP) president Haring Qoreka says his party would like to see the creation of ward development authorities in an effort to transform rural areas. He said this was PTP’s fifth policy which wanted authorities established so that wards and villages could become service centres which would then lead to local level governments and districts turning into growth centres.

Students to get tablets
WESTERN Highlands governor Paias Wingti says grade 10 and 12 students will receive a tablet each in the second term in order to boost learning beyond the traditional classroom or text book. Wingti also announced that all schools would have e-learning libraries for students to read interesting articles or watch videos and many other educational programmes.

Voters urged to be wise
PEOPLE are urged to vote wisely in this year’s general election because their choice would make a difference for the nation’s future, People Reform Party Leader and North Fly MP James Donald says. Donald said the country needed leadership to govern its affairs for fair and equal benefit to everyone.

Authority has friendly policies
ENERGY Minister Saki Soloma said the National Energy Authority had a number of environmentally friendly policies currently lined up for development and launching this year. While presenting amendments at the last sitting of the 10th Parliament last month, he also provided an update on the work of the authority.
