BROTHERS beat University 17-10 to stay unbeaten in the Capital Rugby Union and maintain their No.1 spot on the ladder.
The round 11 fixture at Bava Park, Port Moresby saw the competition’s two best sides go head to head in the match of the round.
University got out to a great start, scoring the first try but Brothers hit back with two tries for a 12-5 lead at halftime.
The second half had the sides scoring a try each but it was Brothers resolute defence and better control that saw them come out winners.
Univesity coach Paul Joseph said his side missed several opportunities to score but he was satisfied that his side had shown enough to be competitive this season.
“I’m happy with the boy’s performance as we improved from the last time we played Brothers,” Joseph said.
Wanderers led by Foster Maso pipped Crusaders 27-26.
Skipper Maso scored a try and kept this side focused on the job for a close win.
Crusaders led 19-10 at halftime and should have gone on from there but let the Wanderers back in with some poor defence.
“It was a good game on both sides, even though we trailed in the first half, we knew we could come back and with self belief we did,” Wanderers coach Kumalau Gotaha said.
“We would look to toughen up our defence because we know we could score from any side of the field.” Result: Sat, June 30 – Wanderers 27 Crusaders 26, Nova 8 Harlequins 7; Sun, July 1 – Brothers 17 Universities 10, Valley Hunters 24 Juggernauts 10.
