UNITED Brothers pitcher Michael Parom hit a home run for his side’s 7-6 victory over Saints in their Port Moresby men’s A grade softball match yesterday.
Trailing 6-3 at the bottom of the fourth inning, it was Brothers’ last turn to bat when Parom stepped up to belt the ball over the boundary to snatch the win from Saints.
Saints had a foot on the winner’s dais but Brothers had other plans when Elias Misie and Mikes Avosa came home to narrow the score 5-6.
Glenn Nigints was on second base hoping for a miracle from Parom, who did exactly that when he hit the home run to bring both Niggints and himself home for the match winner.
Saints started the match off well to score a run each in the top of the first and the second innings through Alphonse Pomahun and Dimi Wosley.
But Brothers bounced back at the bottom of the second to score three runs through Anthony Daple, Ora Gimmie and Dick Bart Junior to stay in the race.
Saints did not score any runs at the top of the third inning but at the top of the fourth, they piled on four runsthanks to Brothers’ infield errors.
Saints scored through Joe Kuwoh, Joe Kundah, Joab Woiwoi and Alex Bunbun to take the lead 6-3.
But U Brothers, with their never-say-die attitude, bounced back to score four runs to win the match 7-6.
Coach Tony Daple summed it up stating that the home-run hit by Parom saved the day for his side.
