BANK South Pacific (BSP) and Australia’s National Rugby League (NRL) club Brisbane Broncos have signed a two-year partnership deal which will see them run business and community programmes.
The partnership was announced yesterday at the Lamana Hotel in Port Moresby with BSP Group chief executive Robin Fleming, Brisbane Broncos Women’s Premiership CEO, ambassador and retired forward Petero Cevoniceva and Broncos Tain Drinkwater present at the announcement.
According to Fleming, the partnership will focus on both parties working together in three key areas: education through financial literacy, small medium enterprise (SME) and leadership.
Under the education programme, Fleming said they would target over 2,000 primary and secondary school children in the National Capital District and would extend to other centres next year.
Fleming said the partnership would see the Broncos promoting financial literacy and the importance of saving by making appearances, meeting the students, awarding certificates and giving out BSP and Broncos merchandises.
He said the Broncos would also help in providing resources, leadership and mentoring in businesses.
“This is an added benefit to our BSP SME customers apart from the existing YES programme we have,” Fleming said.
“The Broncos will also assist in providing Australian-based leaders for mentorship of our staff and BSP existing SME customers.”
Broncos ambassador Petero Cevoniceva said the values and community commitment of the Broncos were in line with BSP and that it was good that they worked together in reaching out to school children and people.
“We want to work especially with the school children,” Cevoniceva said. “Saving is a most important thing in life and we want to educate the young people and transform their mindset” to instil in them a saving culture.

  • Why is Mr Fleming leaving PNG shore with some reputable NGOs who could work in partnership with BSP and engaging an Australian football club who do not know much about PNG culture and tradition with its general environment?

  • Its a good deal so lets all support, wait and see when it will come into play. All the best PNG BSP & BRONCOS RUGBY LEAGUE TEAM OF AUSTRALIA.
