ROBIN Fleming will replace Ian Clyne as chief executive officer of Bank South Pacific, a company statement said.

Clyne is stepping down after five years in the role on June 1.

Fleming has been deputy to Clyne in the past four years.

BSP chairman Kostas Constantinou said Clyne had successfully guided BSP through a period of major transition and significant growth.

He said Clyne had helped the bank to expand its footprint in Papua New Guinea and the Pacific.

“Under his leadership, BSP has achieved significant growth in revenue and profit while expanding its range of services through branches, Eftpos, ATMs and online channels,” he said.

“At the same time, he has built a strong senior management team with a robust succession plan in place.

“As a result of this, we are in the middle of an inevitable position of being able to elevate a deputy CEO into the CEO’s role.”

Fleming has a distinguished career in banking with more than 30 years at BSP.

He has an exceptional background in risk management and has helped grow the bank’s book with minimal exposure.

Constantinou said BSP had built a solid platform from which to launch the next phase in its growth strategy.

“Ian’s style of strong leadership has been important in implementing the transformation programmes which the bank has had on its agenda.

“The board recognises that it is now timely to introduce new leadership to assist in the further extraction of value from the transformation programme,” he said.
