BANK South Pacific lost one of its automated teller machines (ATM) in the fire that destroyed two shopping centres in Port Moresby on Monday last week.
The ATM belonging to BSP was housed inside Papindo Trading building that went up in flames in the early hours in Gerehu. Group general-manager Paul Thornton told The National that it was regrettable that such events happened and impacted businesses.
“It also impacts our customers and that is of concern to us,” he said.
“BSP lost two ATMs and 12 Eftpos terminals in the fire.”
Thornton said that they lost two ATMs earlier this year due to a fire in Mt Hagen.
He said the bank had lost 10 ATMs to fire over the past five years.
“The short-term option when something like this happens is to look for alternative sites for new ATMs,”Thornton said.
“In the medium to longer term, we discuss with the landlord their intention to rebuild on the destroyed site so that we can take up space in their new building once constructed.”
