BULOLO district has continued its financial assistance to the NBC Morobe radio to reach remote areas and inform the people about socio-economic issues.

District administrator Tae Gwambelek gave K29,800 to the director provincial radio Ponko Nonao on behalf of Bulolo MP Sam Basil and the joint district planning and budget priorities committee.

Gwambelek said the current rundown facility had been the pride of the nine districts in early 1970s to late 1990s in terms of its programme content which suited rural people.

“Radio is one media outlet and its effectiveness penetrates the rural areas to inform and educate the people,” he said.

“However it is sad to realise that responsible leaders including politicians neglect to assist such communication network not for the better of radio but to keep in touch with their people in districts.”

He said provincial radio stations provided a mutual touch, bond and relationship with rural people, their leaders, relatives and the outside world.

It was the third time the Bulolo joint district planning and budget priorities committee had assisted the NBC Morobe radio host its Bulolo live segment since 2009.

NBC Morobe and Bulolo are in the process of setting up a radio station with one kilowatt 100 radius tower signal in the district that will cover six local council areas.
