BULOLO district chief executive Tae Gwambelek and Wau-Bulolo Urban mayor Sogga Gaumina are impressed with the progress of the national identification (NID) registration programme in the district.
The NID team started at Muniyau in Buang where it completed 20 wards. That was followed by 22 wards in Mumeng, except Piu, that would be covered later.
In Mumeng, the people of Yanta and Hengambu were registered first because they were landowners of the Wafi-Golpu mine.
Gaumina said that in Bulolo Town, registry booths were set up at the district administration office, PNG Forest Product and Bulolo Market, allowing people to walk in and register. “It really gives ample time and space for my people to register themselves,” he said.
“Importantly, after completion, it will give me a fair idea of registered population figure within 14 wards in Wau-Bulolo Urban for planning and budgeting.”
Gwambelek said the national identification team would do to Watut next, followed by Wau Urban, Wau Rural and Waria.
