Bus stop wardens open account with Microfinance

About 200 bus stop wardens in Port Moresby opened accounts with PNG Microfinance Limited yesterday.
Bank officers Joycinda Mata and Tom Larry set up a tent at Unagi Oval in Gordon to register the wardens. Mata said it was a passbook account, or same-day processing account.
“Each individual will pay an initial deposit of K10 or K20 for the account opening,” Mata said. “After their registration, we will collect their names, take face photos, passports and other proof of identification so that when they show up at the bank and present their ID, we will issue their passbooks.”
Mata said the bank would help them with small loans if they properly maintained their account with a steady flow of deposits.
Warden coordinator Benny Kaifa said bus stop wardens and women street cleaners registered yesterday.
Their wages will be paid directly into their accounts.
