BULOLO district administrator Tae Guambelek is calling on critics of public servants to let them do their jobs.
Former Waria local level government president and Bulolo Open candidate Morokoi Gaiwata and Leonard Brian said on Monday that public servants involved in the counting of ballots should be replaced by church workers to encourage transparency and minimise fraud.
Both men called on returning officer Raune Jombart to allow pastors to oversee counting in Bulolo.
But Guambelek said pastors were not trained to handle election-related duties.
“What if the pastors encounter technical problems during the counting?” he asked.
“It is the responsibility of public servants to take control of any election-related duties as they were trained and qualified for the job.”
Guambelek questioned the returning officer’s decision to make changes that appeared to reflect the request by the two men.
“What jurisdiction does Jombart have to make changes to counting officials at the wish of the two candidates?” he said.
