BURGLARS broke into the Papindo Trading and Manus Training Centre last month, Manus police commander Chief Insp David Yapu says.
“The burglars cut open a freezer container in Papindo and carted away cartons of frozen chicken wings, pork and lamb worth K8, 721.90,” he said.
Chief Insp Yapu said security guards spotted the burglars carrying the food away and gave chase.
“The burglars dropped some food in their haste to get away.
“Some burglars were identified and they will be arrested soon.” In the other burglary, thieves broke into the Manus Training Centre and stole a dinner set, water cooler, rice cookers, pots, and water urn worth about K1,366.
“We appeal to the community to help us identify and catch the thieves. The locals should help to show that they respect education institutions such as the Manus Training Centre,” he said.
In another incident, a fight broke out between Papitalai youths and Papitalai Secondary School students last Saturday in which a teacher and a student were injured.
Chief Insp Yapu said policemen rushed to the school and managed to prevent the situation from escalating.
The youths from the nearby village fled while the students were ordered to return to their dormitories. The injured teacher and student were sent to Lorengau General Hospital for medical treatment while one student was held in police custody to help with investigations.
Chief Insp Yapu said police were requested by the school administration to provide security during the school’s sports day.
