OPERATORS of buses with white plates have been advised to register their vehicles with the Land Transport department because they are operating illegally.
National Capital District PMV Association president Jack Waso said only buses with yellow plates should be operating in Port Moresby.
Waso said white-plate buses were operating illegally.
“Starting January next year, offenders will be penalised with hefty fines under the new law when the new Road Traffic Authority passed by the Parliament comes into force,” he said.
“That’s why I am appealing to PMV owners to register their buses and get a yellow plate if they want to provide bus services in the city.”
He said it was important that operators must register their buses with the Land Transport department to get their licences.
“PMV operators must also be a member of the association to address their welfare collectively,” he said.
“After registering and getting a licence to operate on a yellow plate, they must pay a K200 membership fee with the NCD PMV Association.”
Waso said there were 25 routes in the city and buses must operate on their allocated routes. Next year, if you are caught operating on the wrong route, your license will be terminated.
