HIGHLANDS-based business house Dae Won Trading Ltd, has given the five government-run hospitals in the region a timely boost of more than K120,000.
The Mt Hagen and Goroka provincial hospitals, Mendi, Kundiawa, and Enga hospitals received K121,864 last Friday at the Mt Hagen Hospital.
Mt Hagen was given K41,024, Kundiawa got K20,450, Wabag K20,165, Goroka K20,225 and Mendi K20,000.
Dae Won operations manager Dennis Cartenae said it was Dae Won’s way of giving back to the people.
This is not the first time the company had made donations to the hospitals. It runs a string of supermarkets and wholesale outlets in the highlands, as well as a hotel in Wabag, Enga.
It was the first time Mendi Hospital received funding from the company.
Western Highlands provincial health authority chief executive officer Dr James Kintwa thanked Dae Won for taking the step to support hospitals in the region.
Kintwa said the Highlands were densely populated with more than two million people and the costs involved in running the hospitals were high.
The government often overlooked that and did not cater adequately for the hospitals, forcing them to run on tight budgets.
Despite this, the hospitals had tried to deliver the best health services to the people and had succeeded in doing so by employing specialist doctors
and providing much needed health care.
Kintwa said Mt Hagen Hospital would use its share of the money to buy drugs to use during the festive season because it was a time when the hospital saw an increase in patients.
