Police Minister Jelta Wong is urging businesshouses to help their local police stations to enforce law and order in their respective communities.
“I’m also challenging the public and police officers to look after the facilities in the stations that were funded and provided by business houses,” he said yesterday during the opening of the refurbished Hohola Police Station in Port Moresby.
“Many times we renovate police stations. But the community and police officers misuse it.”
Wong said the refurbishment of the station was in preparation for the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (Apec) meeting in November.
MRDC managing director Augustine Mano said that the station’s refurbishment was part of their community initiative as their investment, the Star Mountain Plaza Hilton Hotel, was in the suburb.
“The hotel will host the gala dinner for Apec where all the world leaders will come and have their dinner. So it is important that we fix up the station that looks after the hotel.”
Mano said the refurbishment cost K500,000 and took three months to complete
Three printers, seven desktop computers, two laptops, 25 pieces of furniture, including lockers, desks and chairs, were provided.
