MAHURU and Kirakira volleyball tournaments received assistance from local businessman Michael Kandiu who supported the initiatives during the festive season.
He said the support was for Moresby South with emphasis on youth-oriented activities to help address alcoholism and violence.
“There are about 20 teams from Meduna village,” Kandiu said.
“There are now games going on at Mahuru village which started its tournament before Christmas and will likely end in the second week of January.
“We will be having a few more tournaments like this at Korobosea and Kirakira so that it’s inclusive of the Motu-Koitabu people in the area.
“Volleyball is always big in these parts of the city but rugby league is new which we’ll be trying out next year (2021).
“The competition in Meduna started in September.
“We’ve been working with the village and community leaders to continue some of the games to keep young people busy during this time of the year.
