THE Manubada Volleyball Association is looking to adopt a more professional approach in the upcoming season, according to its president Kidu Morea.
He told The National that while volleyball had always been a leisure sport, the association was committed to developing the game and its players.
“I see that there’s a lot of money coming into sporting competitions and you’ll always hear and read about money not serving its intended purpose,” he said.
“One of my aims is to try and professionalise volleyball to a certain level, so that we give something back to the people who are involved in it.
“We’ve already completed our calendar for 2021 and there are three new clubs that want to join this year.
“We have completed the referees’ report, competition manager’s report and my report along with our financial and administrative plan for the year.
“That’s the direction that we want to move in this year.
“Overall, we want to change how we manage our competition to develop volleyball.”
Meanwhile, Morea said the season would tip off in July with the draws to be announced later.
“We don’t want to have more than eight clubs this year because we would like to maintain that competitive edge the current clubs had last year,” he said.
“It was a really good first year for the competition in 2020.
“Our junior and men’s teams did well in the national championships, so that’s another level for us to aspire.”
