LAE businessman gave K20,000 to the Seventh-day Adventist church to develop small-to-medium enterprise (SME) businesses to support church activities in the city recently.
The SDA church said, in a statement, that businessman Mathew Minape had boosted their plan to implement the Government’s SME policy with the K20,000 cheque.
Minape presented the cheque to the church’s stewardship department at its Lae headquarters.
PNG Union Mission secretary Ps Leonard Sumatau received the cheque on behalf of the church and thanked Minape for his support.
“Long-term sustainability is a challenge for the church and such financial support will help maintain projects and programmes,” Ps Sumatau said.
Minape said he had been supporting various church ministries and was happy to give back to the church as the contribution was part of his tithe.
“I was a struggling businessman about 20 years ago but I helped churches quietly over this period,” he said.
“This is my promise with God so I must do my part.”
Meanwhile, the church’s stewardship director Ps Andrew Opis said the money would be used to roll out components of the SME policy.
“God has sent you to come,” he told Minape.
“We prayed about this project and thank you for your support.”
