KAVIENG MP Ian Ling-Stuckey has presented a K100,000 allocation for infrastructure development of New Hanover’s Umbukul sub-health centre in New Ireland.
Ling-Stuckey, who is also Papua New Guinea’s Treasurer, presented a mock cheque to the Kavieng development authority this week.
He told Umbukul communities that the sub-health centre, when completed, would serve about 3,000 islanders.
Meanwhile, Ling-Stuckey warned his people in New Ireland that the coronavirus (Covid-19) was a dual killer.
“It kills on the health front, especially the elderly and those who were already sick,” he said.
“It also kills on the economic front.
“One benefit of our health programme has been the growth in payment of health workers, doctors, nurses and others.
“Another is the strong growth in capital investment to meet future health needs.”
Ling-Stuckey said the Government was looking at diverting capital health expenditures towards goods and services expenditure to help the ongoing war on the Covid-19.
“I have acknowledged that too much red tape slowed vital cash from flowing to provincial health authorities earlier this year,” he said.
Ling-Stuckey said there was a massive new challenge facing Papua New Guinea.
“We can overcome it by helping each other even at the most basic level by washing our hands regularly, practising social distancing, staying home if sick and getting vaccinated when the opportunity arises,” he said.
