Butterflies remain focused on continuing perfect start to season

BUTTERFLIES say they focused on continuing their hot streak after the A-grade side won all their three games since the start of the Port Moresby Rugby Football League season.
Coach Michael Boeo told The National on Tuesday that his men would look to avoid complacency for the remainder of the season at the Santos National Football Stadium. He said there was room for more improvement despite their perfect start.
“We lost a couple of players to Digicel Cup teams this year, but the results from the first three rounds prove that our young players are stepping up,” Boeo said.
“I am happy with players like Olaps Koloma and John John Ipa, they are taking more responsibility.
“Our goal is to continue this form each week. I feel that our best is yet to come.
“But to achieve that, we have to continue improving in each game.”
Boeo said he was pleased with their Digicel Cup fringe players who were helping the side. “It’s good to see Trevor Solu and Simon Kama play with us when they are not in the Hela Wigmen line-up,” he said.
“Central Dabaris’ Philip Gene also plays with us. These inter-city players have contributed a lot to our wins so far this season.”
Boeo said former Mt Hagen Eagles halfback Raven Jonah was with them and had been instrumental since round one.
Meanwhile, he said his Butterflies had passed their condolences to the family of club founder and owner Peter Oresi, who passed away in Popondetta, Northern, on Sunday. “Peter has contributed a lot in developing many semi-professional rugby league players in the country through his Butterflies club over the years,” Boeo said.
“We are saddened by his passing.” Boeo said current and former Butterflies players who wanted to make contributions to the late Oresi’s haus krai, could do so during training at Apex Park, Boroko, this week.
