THE National Executive Council (NEC) has confirmed Kala Aufa as the Clerk to Parliament for six years.
Prime Minister James Marape told The National that due process to appoint the clerk was complied with.
He said the formal announcement of the Cabinet decision would be made once it was signed.
“I will be in a position to announce once the formality is completed,” Marape said.
According to sources, Aufa was elected at the Cabinet meeting last Wednesday.
Aufa had been acting in the position for almost five years.
Kala was appointed acting Clerk pending the substantive appointment.
Cabinet received two different processes of selection – one from the Speaker’s office and one from the Permanent Parliamentary Appointment Committee.
Meanwhile, Parliament has been strictly observing the Covid-19 measures and is ready for the August sitting next Tuesday.
Aufa said during the first lockdown, Parliament was operating on skeleton staff.
