Call for journalists to be responsible

NATIONAL Capital District Metropolitan Supt Perou N’dranou is calling on the media not to sensationalise and be more responsible when reporting.
N’dranou said the media should not publish just for the sake of making headlines but consider the effects of their reporting on people and the country.
He made the comments in response to Monday’s Post-Courier front-page article titled, “Chaos at the cup aftermath” which stated that a woman was stripped after Digicel Cup rugby league final in Port Moresby.
N’dranou said police were out in numbers during the match last Sunday between the Lae Tigers and Hela Wigmen.
“Most of the incidents reported are isolated incidents and it’s an ongoing policing challenge in the city that we are dealing with,” he said.
N’dranou said he was yet to receive a report on the alleged incident and whether there was chaos as reported by the newspaper.
“Until I receive the report, I cannot confirm nor deny that such an incident occurred,” he said.
“I urge journalists to be fair, accurate and more responsible in their reporting.”
