Call for vagrancy act, death penalty

THE Highlands regional secretary for Papua New Guinea Teachers Association has called on the government to re-introduce Vagrancy Act and enforce the death penalty.
John Melson expressed grave concern yesterday that some people did not have respect for other people’s lives and killings were becoming a normal thing.
Melson said this following the deaths of two students along with four other people in an ambush in Porgera over the weekend.
He said many teachers and students were unnecessarily killed in the region, but perpetrators were not punished properly.
