THE US Embassy wants more women to take part in business, help improve their lifestyle and move the nation forward.
US ambassador Erin McKee told a academic women’s entrepreneurs trade expo earlier this week that the US government believed that women’s economic empowerment was the key to peace, prosperity and development.
“An inclusive economic growth that is sustained, endures and pushes the nation forward,” she said.
McKee said nearly half the population of PNG were women and 90 per cent of them were under age the of 54.
“If PNG women are empowered to fully participate in the economy, they will act as key drivers of the family security, contribute in reducing poverty, grow and stabilise both local and the national economy and unlock human potential on a transformational scale for future generations,” she said.
She said through the expo, women entrepreneurs participated in a entrepreneurship programme supplemented by localised content, as well as networking and mentorship opportunities.
