ENGA Governor Sir Peter Ipatas is calling on the new government to bring in the Australian Federal Police to address law and order and policing work in the country.
Sir Peter said law and order had always been his concern as he wanted to secure a brighter future for the country.
He said law and order was a major issue in the country and successive governments had down played the issue, which was eating into the fabrics of society and crippling the economy.
He said there was no time to pretend that everything was okay.
He said the pride and culture of the once striving police force was no longer there as the entire system of governance had been compromised, making it difficult to maintain law and order or fight corruption.
Sir Peter said Enga, Southern Highlands and Hela needed the support of outsiders to address the law and order issues that was affecting its growth and prosperity.
“It is now time to admit that we have a problem and we legislate for the good of this nation and bring in outside help us to combat law and order,” he said.
Meanwhile, Sir Peter said the entire governance system needed a complete overhaul and the people need to be patient in order to see change in the new Marape Government.
