CHIMBU Governor Michael Dua says there is no need to have huge independence anniversary celebrations when services such as roads, health centres and schools are needed in rural areas.
Dua said the Government should consider looking back to rural villages to take stock of what it had delivered over the years.
“Our people in the villages are really crying out for services and if we do not provide them these services, then we do not need to have such celebrations,” he said.
“Our small people are suffering and we have to look back and help them.
“We have so many natural resources and yet, our people are suffering.”
Dua was referring to a parade by police and the army in front of the Simbu government building in Kundiawa last Wednesday.
Simbu administrator Michael Bal Temai urged public servants in the province to do their best in serving the people.
“How much have you contributed to the development of this province and the country?” he asked public servants during the celebrations.
