Campaign aims to reduce violence

THE United Nation Women has launched a campaign that will involve various activities to get men and boys, women and girls involved in reducing violence in public places.
The Sanap wantaim campaign initiated by UN Women is supported by the National Capital District Commission, Australian High Commission and PNG Under-20 Fifa team and youth activists.
The new UN Women youth champion and hip-hop artist Jay Lieasi, NCD Governor Powes Parkop, UN Women PNG country director Dr Jeffery Buchanan and youths from organisations in Port Moresby stood together and announced their collective vision for Port Moresby at the launching.
Parkop said: “To be free of violence, fear and harassment is a constitutional right for all, not just a goal for women and girls.
“Let us take action today to bring back peace in our city, in our streets, in our homes and in our country.”
Australian Counsellor Susan Ferguson said the government of Australia had signed an agreement with PNG to address violence and it would surely support the campaign.
UN Women executive director Vilupti Barrineau urged everyone to follow the campaign on facebook.
