Micro small medium enterprises (MSME) artisans in PNG will now access global markets to sell their products, says United States Ambassador to PNG Erin McKee.
This comes after the launching of the Thousand Tribes campaign on Thursday, targeted to deliver economic and social impact as well as conserve PNG’s culture and biodiversity.
McKee said the creative arts market was worth more than US$30 billion (K105.19bil) which PNG did not have a presence in.
The campaign will place greater emphasis on women, the ambassador said.
The US with other programme partners will support by providing the markets, capital investment and technical advice and up skilling trainings on a one on one mentorship basis.
“Papua New Guineas two most valuable assets are its natural resources and its rich cultural heritage which is constantly on display as depicted by the work of PNGs creative artisans,” Mckee said.
“The global creative industries market is over US$30 billion (K105.19bil) that is a big market and it is the second largest employer on the planet of rural women in developing countries.
“Papua New Guinea currently has no presence in this market yet.
“The thousands tribe campaign is specifically designed to champion PNGs incredible vibrant and diverse artisan skills to drive the development of the nation’s creative economy.”

  • They should work with the PNG winner of APEC 2018 for the Biluminous App. It creates a platform for overseas buyers to access local artisans work.

  • Are we CREATIVE ENOUGH to be unique, standout, produce QUALITY and compete with the best in the world?
