Shipping firm expands fleet to meet demand

SWIRE Shipping Ltd is expanding its fleet to cater for the demands from customers here and overseas, says country manager Alistair Skingley.
He made the comment during the arrival of its vessel Lae Chief which has the capacity to carry 2,750 containers at any one time.
“This is the largest vessel that will be introduced here and we are looking at getting another two in a month’s time,” Skingley said.
Swire Shipping currently has 32 vessels with five services coming to PNG from China, Australia, Singapore and New Zealand.
He said it was the start to getting larger vessels to add to their fleets in the Pacific region.
“Swire Shipping has started a fortnightly service which ensures delivery of cargo will be efficient.”
The vessels will call into Lae and Motukea every two weeks.
Skingley said despite the Covid-19 impacts, Swire Shipping continued to invest and grow with its customers in the region and other parts of the world.
PNG Ports managing director Fego Kiniafa said Swire Shipping’s bigger vessel was an investment and a sign of confidence in the country.
“It is now providing an option for our exporters and importers alike and the services it provides will be weekly to our shores,” Kinaifa said

Show other business in PNG that are TOO MUCH TALKING and COMPLAINING WITHOUT doing anything good, especially LONG TERM INVESTMENTS in PNG like yourselves.
