‘Cancel contract’

Abau MP Sir Puka Temu wants Central Provincial Assembly chairman and Governor Robert Agarobe to cancel a contract awarded to build a new administrative office for Abau district because it has taken so long and the building is yet to be completed.
Sir Puka, who is Bougainville Affairs Minister, raised the concern on behalf of the Abau people at the second provincial assembly meeting yesterday. He said the building had been incomplete “for a very long time and materials have gone missing”.
He said they were looking at putting up a fence around the building and have it locked up until a new contractor was engaged.
“Also note not to engage the former contractor because he is operating in the district administration,” he said.
Agarobe said he had to confirm that as he was not aware of what had been happening in Abau.
“You have to appreciate that I’m not part of the province’s procurement team so, because these are technical issues, I need to get more advice,” he said.
“I’ll take this back to the administrator, get the relevant information and I should get back to you in the next meeting.
