THE Port Moresby Cancer Relief Society yesterday launched its month-long fundraising drive in the fight against cancer.

Office manager Asenate Asi said the society was established in 2002 to support cancer care and prevention in Port Moresby.

In May 2011, it started the “Biggest Morning Tea” event to raise funds.

Companies and individuals are urged to organise their own morning tea sessions, where they invite people over for  cuppa, and donate some money.

The funds would then be sent to the society.

ANZ Bank managing director Mark Baker pledged its support of K10,000 to the society for this year.

“ANZ is proud to host the launching in a workplace boardroom basically to set a scene for other companies to join and support the event,” he said.

Dr Paison Dakulala from the Health Department said cancer was everyone’s business so everyone should contribute to fight it.

“Cancer is not only about treatment and cure but it starts from prevention,” he said.

WR Carpenter Group of Companies director Sampath Padmawans said National No. 1 Tea had supported the society for the past years and would continue to do so.

To register as a host, call 180 2009 or email [email protected] and make arrangements.

Funds raised will go towards important items such as patients’ food, essential medical supplies, training for nurses and awareness materials.
