Candidates named for MKA ward by-election

THE candidates’ order of draw for the Motu-Koita Assembly’s (MKA) Poreporena Laurabada ward 1 by-election was held at the NCD electoral commission office yesterday.
Eight men and one woman are contesting the seat.
The candidates are Hedu Henao Boio (10), Rarua Dikana Boge (11), Steven Maraga John (12), Rei Gavera Dai (13), Thomas Goata Willie (14), Ranu R Ebore (15), Dick Morea Nihara (16), Kilawin Mere Oala (17) and Udu Gaba Edea (18).
The seat became vacant after the passing of sitting member Dikana Boge.
Returning officer Roselyn Tabogani said there were 2,239 eligible voters from four clans in the electorate.
“Campaign started right after the nomination of candidates and they can campaign untill midnight of Oct 25,” she said.
Tabogani said polling would be conducted by four teams from the NCD and Central electoral commission staff.
She said candidates had requested that none from Hanuabada should be engaged in polling.
The candidates also raised security concerns during polling but were assured by organisers that police would be present.
