A 45-YEAR-OLD man from Wapenamanda, Enga, appeared before the Waigani Committal Court charged with obtaining property through false pretence.
Roy Andui was charged with falsely obtaining an excavator valued at more than K482,000 from Kapiro Kemeranga Investment.
It was alleged that on Oct 17, 2017, Andui told company manager Joe Kambao (complainant) that he wanted to hire an excavator to build a road in Goilala, Central, which he claimed was a project he had won a contract from Goilala MP William Samb.
The excavator was given to Andui after he paid K50,000 to Kambao.
Andui paid a further K40,000 to Kambao but stopped payments after that.
Andui claimed that the K90,000 he had paid was sufficient for the cost of purchasing the excavator.
Kambao searched for and finally located the machine in Wapenamanda and confirmed that it was his machine which Andui had hired.
The machine was found with alterations; the registration and number plate were also removed.
It was further alleged that Andui had benefitted from using the machine for commercial purposes at a rate of K500 per hour last year and in the first quarter of this year.
Andui was arrested and charged and was later released on bail.
The case was adjourned to Oct 18.
