Recent fights between factions in different areas in Madang ceased after police intervened and talked to the people.
Madang police commander senior inspector Mazuc Rubiang said the fights were between the Kananam and Mabonob villages and another between the Public Tank and Biliau Maus Rot.
Rubiang told The National that the fight between locals from Kananam and Mabonob over land would be settled out of court.
He said the other involved people from the Public Tank area and Biliau Maus Rot was resolved after the main suspect was arrested.
Rubiang aimed to make sure police in Madang responded to calls or complaints by the local communities.
“We (police) will try our best to bring the peaceful Madang back as it was in the past but it all comes back to the locals and the others who are residing in Madang.
“One call; one response is my aim, but the problem will be logistics such as fuel, vehicle and boats,” he said.
“Police are prepared to work but we need logistics.
“To bring back the beautiful Madang back the government leaders and the people and the other organisations must work together with the police to maintain law and order and keep peace in our communities.”
