Capital punishment, religious education

Letters

I SUPPORT the views by Henry in The National on Friday on factors which contribute to declining standards in schools and institutions.
I have always raised this matter in some national conferences.
One other matter that is missing in primary and high school is capital punishment.
There is lack of discipline as the foolish regulation of child protection and no capital punishment in early schooling has removed this.
Capital punishment and religious education made many of us in the 1960-1980s reach some of the highest levels in the education system to obtain masters and doctoral degrees in overseas universities.
I believe that reintroducing capital punishment and religious education into the lower educational systems can create fear for teachers at schools.
It can instill honour and respect as well for parents at home.
I think this can change the situation for discipline and bring about great achievements in
future in higher learning institutions.
