Capital Rugby Union to end regular season this weekend

CAPITAL Rugby Union has announced its finals format which will see the top-six teams across each of the six divisions compete over three weekends.
This weekend’s round-22 fixtures will by the final lot of matches for the regular season with first week of the finals set to kick off on Sept 10.
“The first and second-placed teams will be on a bye,” union president Kori Chan said in a statement.
“Preliminary final match one will see third face sixth and preliminary final match two will see fourth take on fifth.
“Semifinal match one will be between first place and the winner of preliminary final match two.
“The other semifinal will see second play the winner of preliminary final match one.
“Both winners will meet in the Sept 24 grand final.
“The decision to deliver this format has been one that has received much input and deliberation by our clubs. After careful consideration, union executives have made the final decision for this format to determine the premiers for each of our grades.”
Chan said the finals would be played at Bava Park and would be live-streamed on Facebook.
He thanked the union’s sponsors and stakeholders for making the season a success.
“It is a credit to each and every one of you for ensuring that our competition continues to deliver the benchmark for rugby union in Papua New Guinea,” Chan said.
“There will always be room for improvement.
“We are a long way from where we want and need to be.
“But we believe that the foundation for our competition has been established.”
