THE Electoral Commission is again partnering with Caritas PNG to educate the people on election issues.
Electoral Commission representative Alice Guguna said the awareness was a civic-voter education strategy to educate people in the remote areas on the election process and their right to vote freely, fairly and safely.
Caritas PNG has been a long-time partner of the commission in educating the people on the election process.
It has produced awareness materials such as posters, leaflets and brochures to educate the people on the importance of casting their votes without being intimidated.
Guguna thanked Caritas PNG and said: “When there are partners to educate the people, the election is accessible, inclusive, free and fair to address other issues as well to bridge biased and restricted election processes”.
Caritas general secretary Fr Victor Roche said the partnership was a strategic initiative which both organisations had in previous
general election.
“This year was an opportunity to assist in the formal election process by delivering awareness to the people,’’ he said.
“The church plays a prophetic role in leading the country’s election processes with respect to the government and the Constitution, to support a free and fair election to progress.”
