Case of soldiers accused of murder goes through committal process

TWO soldiers accused of killing former National Capital District zone three police commander Andrew Tovere remain in custody at Bomana prison as their case goes through the committal process.
Sgt Supa James, and Lt Richard Ule are facing wilful murder charges after Tovere was killed in Port Moresby on May 9.
Both the accused appeared before Magistrate Tracy Ganaii at the Waigani Committal Court on Friday for their second mention.
Police prosecutor Sgt Joseph Sangam told the court that a police hand-up brief was yet to be completed and served to both.
Magistrate Ganaii adjourned the case to July 31.
James, 48, of Noure in Chuave, Chimbu, and Ule, 31, of Dirima in Gumine, Chimbu were among three who were allegedly involved in the assault of Tovere on May 9 at the ATS settlement outside Port Moresby.
The third suspect in currently under investigation.
Tovere was responding to reports of the sale of alcohol by a black market at the settlement when he was allegedly attacked by a group of off-duty soldiers.
He was taken to the Port Moresby General Hospital where he died at 2pm of injuries he had sustained.
The soldiers were brought to the Boroko police station where they were processed.
