Cassowaries booked a spot in this afternoon’s Curtain Brothers Women’s T20 Smash final after their third-straight win of the tournament against Black Bass yesterday.
They face the winners of this morning’s semifinal between Mudwomen and Mariners.
Cassowaries, led by skipper Kaia Arua, beat Black Bass by five runs in their last match of the regular rounds with the Papua New Guinea Lewas captain scoring 41 runs not-out for her side’s total of four for 126 after 20 overs.
Adding to the run total was Konio Oala’s 26 not-out and Isabel Toua’s 32.
Black Bass’ Lucy Ben bagged a double while the Lewas’ Tanya Ruma and Noani Vare grabbed a wicket each in the opening innings.
Ruma bagged 68 runs and her teammate Hane Donald scored 24 but smart fielding from Cassowaries saw Black Bass finish at seven for 121 after 20 overs.
The conclusion of the women’s tournament also follows the end of the Isuzu National Cup (men’s 50-over tourney) with the men’s T20 Smash to start next week at Amini Park in Port Moresby.
