PETE’S PUNCHLINE

Sports

  • A big thumbs up to David Mathew from Vitiaz United for probably having one of his best games this season, he scored four goals. He’s now scored seven from his last two matches. Let’s hope he can show us some more when they face Hekari in the match of the round tomorrow.
  • The Central Dabaris could have easily outplayed the Port Moresby Vipers on Sunday but they just kept fumbling the ball every chance they had. Come on guys, you can do better than that. Get it right this weekend.
  • Here’s some trivia: Lahanis assistant coach Michael Moses has actually coached the side to a Digicel Cup grand final. Also, he’s a former Lahanis player and his surname isn’t Moses but Moseh. He says people kept saying ‘Moses’ in school and he just decided to go with it.
  • With Kawhi, PG13 and Lou Williams hitting form at the same time, Luka Doncic is going to have to channel his inner Jordan to have a hope. Barring any injuries to the Clippers trio, I think the Mavs are cooked.
  • Jeff Horn found out that heart and grit can only get you so far. In the end, against elite level opposition, you need other tangibles like skill, speed, power and tactical prowess. Wednesday’s beatdown reminded me of how he got taken apart by Terence ‘Bud’ Crawford a couple years ago. His conqueror Tim Tszyu has stepped out of his father’s shadow with that performance but has to keep on track with a fight against a top-15 junior middleweight, someone like American Erickson Lubin or Brazilian Patrick Teixeira.
