GRAND Chief Sir Paulias Matane has praised all the people who were at the forefront in leading this nation in the last 37 years.
He said last Friday in Kokopo, East New Britain, that these people were God-fearing people and praised the Catholic church and other Christian churches “for doing a great job in spreading the gospel, educating the population and providing basic services to assist government services”.
Sir Paulias said such services provided by the Catholic church were mainly in the fields of health and education.
“If other churches are not doing enough to serve the people, I challenge them to ensure they reach out to the people through basic services,” he said.
He also urged the people to critically assess their lives and balance all aspects of their life.
“I urge the people of this nation to go to church and learn to become good citizens of this country.
People need to balance their lives in order to become good and great citizens who can contribute positively to the nation.”
He also urged the people to serve the unfortunate and to assist them in anyway, adding that was part of building the country.
“Jesus served truly with love.
“If this country is truly a Christian country then there should not be any corruption at all, no robbing on the streets, no hurting and no hate,” he said.
Sir Paulias also called on all the leaders to create programmes to assist the people in the next 37 years and beyond.
