Catholic youths made Don Bosco base for renewal

Youth & Careers

Around 1500 young people of the Diocese of Kundiawa western deanery gathered at Don Bosco Simbu Technical College for a one-week gathering.
The Catholic youths from three parishes were in camp from September 18 to 23.
In a colourful procession, the youths brought the youth cross from Bogo, one of the remote villages, to Don Bosco which was received by Fr Robinson, the college rector and parish priest Father Peter Noglai.
The youths with bush bands and tambourines sang hymns and praises to God and prayed during the procession to become witnesses.
The theme of the gathering was, “Ol Yangpela blong Nau yumi wokabaut wantaim Kraist long wok na pasin (The youths of today, let us walk with Christ through our work and way of life)”.
They visited parishes of Mingende, Kup, Kerowagi and remote sub stations of these parishes for the past three months in preparation for the gathering.
In the opening mass, Fr Edwin Genovia in his homily asked the young people to be life-giving people to the society and practise Christian values.
The youths participated in different activities like morning devotion and worship, animated eucharistic celebrations, awareness programmes on health and hygiene, value education classes, debate on why children are baptised at an early age, dance and devotional song competition, the proper use of social media, mobile phone and internet issues, Bible quiz, traditional and
modern dressing competition, drawing and essay competition and many more positive activities that related to or spoke about the positive way of Christian values.
Above all, it put God at the centre of their lives.
