A GROUP of youth organisations and stakeholders have formed a coalition to raise youth voice about electoral, drug and alcohol laws.
Voice Inc, a youth development organisation, said in a statement that the first action for the Youth Coalition was to conduct a survey to gather youth voices on two key areas of legislation.
“The Constitutional Law Reform Commission has requested that public submissions be made on the laws relating to the use and abuse of alcohol and drugs and representation of special interest groups in Parliament,” the statement said.
“The Youth Coalition aims to channel thousands of youth voices into this process.
“The survey is open to all young people between the ages of 18 and 35 and can be accessed online or picked up in hard copy from The Voice Inc office.”
Priscillar Napoleon, executive manager of the PNG Cancer Foundation, explained their support for the survey.
“The Papua New Guinea Cancer Foundation supports youth engagement on the laws on drugs and alcohol use as one step in encouraging youths to start making healthy lifestyle choices and reducing cancer risks,”she said.
The youth coalition was formed earlier this year and was made up of the PNG Cancer Foundation, PNG Olympic Committee, Eco-Services Ltd, PNG Tribal Foundation and InterYouth Wave Rally among others. Youth Coalition will focus collective energy on development challenges like unemployment, drug and alcohol abuse, creating a sector resource hub, amplifying youth voice into political spaces and sharing training and capacity building opportunities.
