FIVE men who were allegedly carrying out a robbery in a Tokarara shop, in Port Moresby on Thursday were caught in the act by police.
The National Capital District (NCD)/Central Divisional command, in a statement, said its NCD police dog and fox units were able to block off the gate to the shop and arrest five suspects.
“The suspects had held up and stole a sedan from a man along Hohola before driving it to Tokarara to carry out the robbery,” police said.
Police said they drove into the car park pretending to be genuine shoppers.
“The suspects then went into the shop and pulled out weapons to rob the shop and customers.
“Security guards and staff inside were alert and fought off the criminals.
“While this was happening, police were informed.”
A dog unit and fox 205, who were patrolling in the Tokarara-Hohola area, arrived at the scene and blocked the gate of the premises.
Five suspects were arrested but two managed to escape.
Police said the stolen vehicle was recovered outside the shop, as well as a homemade gun with live ammunition.
