A 36-YEAR-OLD man arrested with the help of images from a Closed Circuit Television (CCTV) for allegedly stealing over K43,000 from a couple’s join bank account appeared before the Goroka Committal Court on Wednesday.
Cedrick Asemani Toubar, from Kamaliki village in Goroka town, was arrested and charged with allegedly stealing K43,390.50 between Dec 31, 2019, and Jan 6, 2020, from Dr Kainaro Keikei Kravia and his wife Geori Kahona Kravia.
The accused flew to Port Moresby from Goroka and did withdrawals from ATMs in Port Moresby where he was arrested with the help of CCTV images.
Presiding Magistrate Josephine Nidue, after reading the accused’s charges adjourned the matter to Feb 24.
She upheld an objection to bail by Snr Police Prosecutor Albert Warkia, who pointed out that the accused flew to Port Moresby from Goroka and was on the run making it difficult for the police to arrest him. Nidue, however, told the accused that he has the right to make a formal bail application.
