THE Central provincial government has committed a K25,000 sponsorship towards the Southern Region 9s tournament.
Last year, the provincial government allocated K50,000 for the challenge.
The provincial government chairman (finance) Waru Lofa Loea said yesterday the funds should be accounted for.
He said there should be transparency on how the funds were used.
“Good management will only come to fruition when there is transparency,” Loea said.
“We (Central provincial government) want to see results, we are a result-oriented government and on those grounds we decided to support the tournament.
“We have a focus and vision and we acknowledge director Solomon Ravu and his team for the good work they are doing to bring all of southern region together,” he said.
Ravu said the funds would be put to good use to ensure the event ran smoothly and ended successfully.
Ravu said it was a benchmark set by the provincial government. He urged other provincial governments who had teams participating to follow suit.
“Most of the teams playing over the past years had to go out their own way to raise funds to attend the tournament.
“I want other provincial governments and their governors to step in and support their teams as they also represent the province and the people,” Ravu said.
