Central Education is hosting a two-day secondary school careers expo, providing their Grade 12 students an opportunity to find out about tertiary institutions they can enrol at.
The expo, which started yesterday, saw the main universities in the country, the Chinese Embassy plus other higher learning institutions and colleges in the city putting up exhibitions at Don Bosco Technology Institute.
Vice-chairperson of the expo Sai Suwary said half of the students from Sogeri National High, Iaroari, Laloki, Mt Diamond Adventist, Kwikila, Kupiano and Mainohana secondary schools visited the expo yesterday and the next lot was expected today.
“The sponsorship is coming entirely from the Central government,” Suwary said.
“We decided that out students need to be exposed to the information from all the tertiary institutions in the country so a committee was formed and they decided to stage an expo.
“The main purpose is to make our students aware of the courses that are on offer in the institutions around the country.”
Students were pleased to gather information from the tertiary institutions and Chinese Embassy.
The University of PNG, University of Natural Resource and Environment, PNG University of Technology, Divine Word University, Port Moresby Technical College, Sacred Heart Teachers’ College, Institute of Business Studies, International Training Institute and few others took part in the exhibition.
The event will conclude today with an award presentation to the most outstanding school which showed initiative and was a well-presented exhibitor.
