Father of slain police officer forgives killers

THE father of a slain officer has appealed to police not to harm the suspects involved in his son’s killing if they are caught.
Joe Pisa, father the late Const Samuel Pisa, who was shot by criminals while attempting to stop a daylight robbery in Alotau, Milne Bay, recently, said he was completely devastated by the news of his son’s death.
“I went straight to church and asked God to forgive the people who murdered my son,” he told the police media unit yesterday.
Pisa said he almost collapsed.
He said he prayed fervently for strength and endurance to overcome his grief.
A devout Seventh-day Adventist follower, Pisa was walking home in Mendi, Southern Highlands, after church when the tragic news reached him.
“I forgive them, but I want them to repent, to seek God’s forgiveness and surrender themselves to authorities,” he said.
Pisa appealed to police not to harm the suspects if they were arrested and instead, let the court deal with them.
He said there were moments when he was at peace, knowing that his son had died a hero while attempting to protect innocent people from armed thugs.
Pisa went to the police headquarters in Port Moresby after arriving from Alotau with his son’s body.
